چکیده

290 Abstract— This paper aims to simulate dielectric elastomeric (DE) diaphragm for a micropump. First a theoretical study is done to compare the different actuation methods that are currently being used in this field. Then a circular DE diaphragm is modeled for a micropump. The material assumed for the micro diaphragm is 3M’s VHB 4910 (polyacrylic tapes available in the market). The thickness of the micro actuator (diaphragm) is 30μm and the diameter is 5mm. This material is simulated on FEA software using linear material model and out-of-plane deflections are measured. The pre-stretch effects are not considered during the simulation of DE diaphragm. The simulated diaphragm data are compared to the experimental data available in the literature for validation. The deflections are then used in the empirical formulas to calculate maximum actuation pressure, stresses in diaphragm and discharge of the pump.

Chip Formation Process using Finite Element Simulation “Influence of Cutting Speed Variation”

The main aim of this paper is to study the material removal phenomenon using the finite element method (FEM) analysis for orthogonal cutting, and the impact of cutting speed variation on the chip formation, stress and plastic deformation. We have explored different constitutive models describing the tool-workpiece interaction. The Johnson-Cook constitutive model with damage initiation and damag...

Generating and Focusing the Ultrasound Waves Using Elastomer-based Capacitive Micro-Speakers

Ultrasound wave is a kind of waves with the frequency higher than the human audible frequency. Although ultrasound was first used for military identification purposes, it has been used for decades for various other applications, especially medical applications. Medical applications of ultrasound include diagnostic and therapeutic applications, such as for the treatment of cancer. In this paper,...

Modeling of Wave Propagation through Soft Electrically Tunable Metamaterials

In this paper, we present our numerical simulation capability, developed within the Abaqus/Standard environment, for modeling steady-state wave propagation through soft dielectric elastomer composites. Specifically, we will discuss (a) a nonlinear user-element subroutine (UEL) to simulate the coupled electric-displacement response of these soft materials, (b) a user MPC subroutine to enforce co...

Numerical Modeling and Experimental Study of Probe-Fed Rectangular Dielectric Resonator Antenna (RDRA) Supported by Finite Circular Ground Plane

Dielectric Resonator Antennas (DRAs) have received increased interest in recent years for their potential applications in microwave and millimeter wave communication systems. DRAs are normally used with the support of a ground plane. The radiation and impedance properties therefore depend not only on their physical dimensions and dielectric properties, but also on the size of the ground plane. ...
